Database Content
The New Brunswick Mineral Occurrence Database contains descriptions of metallic mineral occurrences in New Brunswick that range in size from small showings to operating mines. The recorded data includes the geographic location, geological setting, prospecting history, availability of geochemical and geophysical surveys, trenches and drill holes, assays, and published reserves. The referenced information is derived from a variety of sources, including: provincially published geological reports, maps, and unpublished file material; industry assessment reports; Geological Survey of Canada publications; scientific journal articles; and university theses. All locations are presented in geographic coordinates and in the New Brunswick Stereographic Projection, based on the North American Datum 1983.
History of the Mineral Occurrence Database When the original version of the database was released (Mineral Resource Report 3; Rose and Johnson, 1990), only tabulated data was included for each of the 802 known mineral occurrences. In 1993, separate text files were created containing additional information for some of the mineral occurrences. In November 2000, the New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources provided the first annual updated version of the New Brunswick Mineral Occurrence Database at the NBDNR Open House (OF 2000-10; Merlini, 2000). In 2001, the first online version of the database was made available via the internet.
In 2006, a revised online version of the database was released that allows the user to conduct comprehensive searches and gain access to data pertaining to the rocks hosting the occurrences/deposits as well as the particulars regarding tonnage, production, and/or assay results. The database also provides the convenience of a direct link to online assessment reports. The database currently contains information on more than 1400 occurrences with accompanying text files for the majority of these. Updating of the Mineral Occurrence Database is conducted on a monthly basis. Please understand that these databases may contain errors and/or omissions. If you have any questions, please contact:
